About This Program

General Liability is designed to help cover third-party bodily injury and property damage claims that arise from your business operations. Whether you're a 1099 contractor, freelancer, or small business owner, it's the foundational policy that helps protect you against the lawsuits, medical bills, and settlement costs that could otherwise threaten your livelihood.

Why It Matters

01

Third-Party Injuries

If a client, vendor, or passerby is hurt because of your work, General Liability is designed to help cover their medical bills and any lawsuit that follows. For a business of one, a single injury claim could otherwise wipe out your savings.

02

Property Damage

Accidents happen, and damaging a client's property on the job can lead to expensive repair or replacement demands. This coverage is built to help absorb those costs so a small mistake doesn't become a major financial hit.

03

Legal Defense

Even a groundless claim can run thousands in attorney fees. Defense costs are typically included, so you have legal support whether or not you're ultimately found at fault.

04

Instant Certificates

Many clients and venues won't let you start work without proof of insurance. Generate a certificate of insurance instantly, so contracts and gigs never stall.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Professional Liability and General Liability?

General Liability is designed to cover physical risks like bodily injury and property damage. Professional Liability, also called Errors and Omissions, is designed to cover financial harm a client suffers because of your professional advice, service, or work.

Who needs Professional Liability insurance?

Consultants, freelancers, coaches, designers, and other service-based businesses that give advice or deliver professional work should carry it, because they can be held responsible for a client's financial losses.

What does claims-made coverage mean?

A claims-made policy covers claims that are both made and reported while the policy is active, as long as the incident happened after your retroactive date. Keeping continuous coverage is important to avoid gaps.

Does this policy cover work I did before buying it?

It can. Prior acts coverage and retroactive date options may extend protection to qualifying past work, but this needs to be set up when your policy is issued.

Are my legal defense costs covered?

Yes. Your policy is designed to cover legal defense costs for covered claims. On Professional Liability, defense costs are paid within your policy limit, which means they reduce the amount left to resolve the claim itself. This is standard for E&O coverage.

Am I covered if I work with international clients?

You can work with clients in other countries. Coverage typically applies worldwide, as long as the claim is brought in the U.S.
